Hello Heartbeats! Happy September to you! I can’t believe its September already, can you? Well, as you head into the Labor Day weekend, I want to encourage you to laugh a whole lot. Why? Because it’s good for you. Laughter is healing for your soul. I can remember a time when my best friend and I were sitting around talking and you know how one topic leads to another? Well before you knew it we were laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes and holding our stomachs and I can remember thinking, wow that felt good. I needed that laugh. In those few moments, I didn’t feel the heaviness, stress, or weight that life can sometimes bring. I felt relieved, like a surge of strength come into my spirit. I had experienced Proverbs 17:22 NLT, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Suddenly my sapped strength had been renewed or reenergized by laughter and it made my soul feel good. The GNB version says it like this, “Being cheerful keeps you healthy. It is slow death to be gloomy all the time.” Proverbs clearly shows us that laughter holds as much healing power, if not more, than medicine. During those times when life can deplete us of our strength, God has a simple remedy/medicine for us, laughter. Laughter inspires hope, boosts the immune system, relaxes the body, and pushes you into a positive direction. So my friend, get your laugh on every day. It’s healing for your soul and it’s contagious. Your laugh will cause someone else to laugh which creates a happy, healthy environment. Confess: God wants me whole and I’m getting whole by the minute!
